The summer solstice is the shortest night of the year, with only 8 hours of darkness. The days on either side, the 21st and 22nd June, each has 16 hours of daylight. Also known as midsummer, this is the perfect time to be in the hills. We’ll take you on a camping trip you’ll never forget, hiking up into the stunning scenery of the Lake District and spending the night wild camping at a remote location, before walking out the next day. Surrounded by the beautiful fells of Lakeland, you’ll be looked after by an experienced Mountain Leader and truly get the chance to leave the cares of the world behind. In a nutshell: - Spend the shortest night of the year wild camping in the Lake District, where we can watch sunset and sunrise high in the hills. - Enjoy two half-day walks to and from the camping location, walking among the hills and woodlands of Cumbria. - Enjoy a peaceful sleep far from buildings and roads, with only the birds to wake you in the morning. - Be part of a small group, and see the Lake District in a new way.

You’ll meet your leader in Keswick for midday, where you’ll have the chance to get lunch at a local café as a group while running through the plans for the days ahead and checking equipment.
From here we’ll all drive to a location where we set off on our afternoon’s walk. This will be a moderate walk, heading into the hills to show you the lie of the land before you reach the wild spot which your leader has identified as a great wild camp. Remember, this is a camp in the hills, so there are no facilities!
After having time to set up camp, you may explore the local area on a short wander, before your leader prepares a simple evening meal on a camping stove. After this it’s time to relax and discover the pleasurable side of wild camping, with no one to disturb us as we watch the sun go down and perhaps have a hot chocolate or two before bed!
After getting up early to watch the sunrise, you’ll probably want to head back to bed again before it’s time to wake for a more sociably-timed 8am breakfast. We are sure you’ll be buzzing from a night under the stars, and just can’t wait for another few hours out in the hills.
Once camp has been packed up, we’ll head out for another half-day walk, aiming to get back down to the cars for 12-1pm. From here we’ll head out for a café so you can get some lunch before our adventure comes to an end.
You’ll be working up a sweat. Bring along a touch of enthusiasm and a little determination
