Lake District Skyline 2 day mini-trek

  • Location Lake District
  • Price from £110.00

Highlights

This great two day mini-trek was inspired by one of the days from Wainwright’s Whitsuntide Walk. Day 1 leads us from the lakeside of Keswick’s Derwent Water and via a high traverse of Catbells, Maiden Moor and Dale Head we arrive at the shore of Lake Buttermere. The walk is high affording us brilliant Lake District views panning two valleys either side of our ridgeline – and at the same time the total distance is kept to a manageable 10 miles. Carry a tent, or go light and stay at the local youth hostel or a BnB – either way this is a great route for all walkers.
Sunday is a more palatable and flatter, 8 miles getting us back to our start point not too late for the drive/train home.

Day 1

We’ll meet at 10:00 on the Saturday outside Scotgate Holiday Park (campsite) in Braithwaite. Last minute alterations with kit etc and then we'll be off. The route skirts along the valley towards Keswick until we arrive at the foot of Cat Bells where the hard work of climbing the hills begins! Once on top we will be afforded fine Lakeland views in all directions. With a clutch of Wainwrights ticked off and under our belt we'll begin the final descent into the remote and beautiful Buttermere.
In Buttermere there is a campsite, a number of BnBs, a YHA hostel and also a great hotel. Join your pre-booked accommodation of choice and then we'll meet up for a beer and dinner in the evening.

Day 2

Sunday's walk is only two miles shorter than Saturday's walk, but it takes in far less height gain. As we weave our way through (and over one of) the hills you'll be left awestruck at the beauty of this route. (I love it). Expect to be back at your car in Braithwaite for around 1pm.
