Your personal guide Steve will lead you to find the Green Man of Wiltshire on our guided ride. A 27 mile loop around the rolling North Wessex Downs and through small chocolate box villages, via The Kennet and Avon Canal.

In 1724 the River Kennet was made navigable from Reading to Newbury, and by 1727 boats could reach as far as Bath. For hundreds of years before this people had talked about linking the River Kennet with the River Avon, but it was not until 1794 that a route was fixed via Devizes and an Act was passed. The resulting canal was completed in 1810.

 Leaving the canal behind and find trail to find the Green Man; ride too fast and you will miss him..! This Green Man is a replica of the Bamberg Green Man and is carved into the cut end of a lopped branch of a living oak tree above our heads.

Riding back we might see Red Kites hunting for food

BIKE HIRE IS AVAILABLE ON THIS TOUR

• Duration: 4 to 5 hours

• Distance: 21 Miles

• Elevation gain over the total ride: 1,213ft (370M) with some challenging climbs and descending

• Types of bike: Gravel, Mountain, and E-Mountain

• Terrain: Roads, bridleways and byways including roots and loose stones

• Is this Ride For Me: You Will need reasonable fitness and be confident in mountain bike handling skills

Note: New Forest Cycling Tours works in collocation with Cyclexperience to arrange bike hire. Cyclexperience terms and conditions will need to be signed on delivery of the bikes. The ride cannot proceed without completion of these terms and conditions.








We recommend bringing the following:

• Warm Clothing Dependant on weather on the day - additional layers recommended

• Waterproofs Dependant on weather on the day - waterproof clothing recommended

• Food Refreshments for on-ride refuelling e.g. energy bars

• Drink Sufficient water or energy drinks

Bikes must be in good safe and working order; puncture repair kit, spare inner tube & bike pump also required. Cycle helmets must be within the manufacturer's warranty period (3 years from the date of manufacture). More details on all the above will be sent after booking has been confirmed
